Stone Walls Are Soft In A Dreamer's Hands

Life is sometimes a joker. It sometimes gives you problems which you think you can never ever overcome.Problems that test your strength and faith and problems that measure your capacity on how you attack and solve them. But, because of those problems that block your way onto your sweetest dreams, you become a stronger and more refined person you deserve to be. It is also all about how you dream for you to achieve your goal you thought as elusive.

As part of my blog, I want to share my own personal experience which I precisely believe have honed and sharpened me into the better student I can be now. It is an experience that have made me realize that I don't have to surrender whenever I feel almost everything has turned me down, that I have to go on for the sake of my objective.

Way back in my high school days, I was endowed with the tough responsibility I had to hold on. I was the editor-in chief of our school paper. At first, I thought of it as a privilege that no one can take away from me. But, I was wrong. It was a very difficult and heart-breaking task. Of course, I had my colleagues or my staff members whom I really expected to be very cooperative. But my expectations did not fully meet as we go on with our endeavor.

Almost all of my staff members, who also happened to be my classmates, were hard-headed and apathetic. They did not care to submit their articles on time. Well, I did not find fault in reminding them to comply the things they were obliged to do. They would just say that they were busy if I would ask them softly. But, could that be an acceptable excuse since everybody was basically busy? That was one of my problems in meeting our goal.

Secondly, during our time as the staff, we had no principal in our school which could have been the greatest source of support. Definitely, our school paper adviser could not do that alone. We had no proper organization and we were almost cramming in doing such decisions with the officer-in charge and department heads of our school.

Thirdly, the school's primary computer laboratory was not accessible to us. The personnel who took hold of the key was always on leave. Another thing, when we were there to encode the articles, the caretaker would request us to be in a hurry for he had more important things to do, as according to him. That outraged our adviser and made her look for a reason that would compel the caretaker to leave the keys on us.

Due to this, we were sooo late in submitting our entry to the Division Office. What was worse, the higher official was counting on us. Upon knowing that, I almost lost hope, tried to surrender and tried to accept the possibility that our batch could be the first ever batch that has no any schoolpaper to present. That was also the reason that nearly disqualified me as a representative in the 2009 NSPC. Luckily, we were given the last chance even that was already January.

Then, I sat down and wanted to cry. I reflected and asked myself on what was the most proper thing to do. From that point, I talked to my staff mambers sincerely and opened up the real alarming scenario. I made a lot of sacrifices and I did not want that to be wasted. I did not let those three barriers(my apathetic staff members, no principal, no accessible computer lab) block my way onto my endeavor- the submission of a schoolpaper. And above all, I prayed and prayed, made my faith in God stronger.

After that, everything went on good. Our schoolpaper was still produced and was submitted despite the fact that it was so late. I wasn't disqualified and still had the chance to compete in the competition. All of these things happened because my classmates already cooperated, I did not quit and that the Almighty did not leave us behind. Thanks to them!

Well, if you just keep on dreaming and that you don't surrender right away, anything that you dream to accomplish will surely happen. Just like what Miley Cyrus's song tell us, "It's all about the climb!" Also not to forget your faith in Him. Truly, stone walls are soft in a dreamer's hands!

Poverty

Poverty is a serious problem. It deprives every poor man to answer his needs, makes him unproductive and deficient in supplies of things. It is seen in the countries of the third world in a larger scale, one of which is the Philippines.
In the Philippine status quo, poverty is getting in its worse form. The quality of living of the people really changes. It could either be the poor gets poorer or the rich gets richer and it's a painful fact. There is really defective in the governmental system. Sooner or later, there will be detrimental effects that will be experienced by the people whom we can categorize as poor.
The lack of money can be the root of all evil too. It can push someone who is in tremendous need to do something immoral. One can be a thief, one can commit homicide to attain his need. Yet, we shall never pay attention to what someone has done but why someone has done it.
In the brighter side, if we take poverty into a positive thing, one can motivate himself to do better, so that in the future, he would alleviate his social status.
At the bottomline, poverty is not facile to be removed from our society. Considering the fact that our own government can't even feed its own people and that they are incapable to open new avenues for us to improve the quality of our lives. There are so much faults and loopholes done. Moreover, we cannot always rely on our numb government, perhaps, we can use our own initiatives to uplift ourselves.

Our Security in the City

Several bombings that occurred in Mindanao, particularly in Zamboanga City have given the notion to other people from other places that the city is a terrorists' haven. Due to this, people from those places have been afraid to visit Zamboanga which might have also caused by the overwhelming power of media. But, as a constant citizen of the city, I still feel comfortable and safe in the premises of it.

Security in this place as far as I know has been fine. Those bombings have happened only before and Zamboanga now starts to redeem itself. Although there's a lot to be improved in the security system, the effort by the people in the authority is visible. We cannot blame the geographical location of Zamboanga. It is threatened, since it is the nearest urbanized city to the den of those alleged terrorists.

But, wouldn't it be more frightening to live in some other urbanized cities in the country? With all of dozens and dozens of hold-uppers, rapists, pickpockets, gangsters, car nappers, murderers and everything in Metro Manila? Now what place is better to live at? Hahaha. I'm just hurt to the fact that I was being one of the stereotyped people before. Way back in 2005, I went to attend a national conference in Surigao City and during the parade, when Zamboanga City was introduced, Surigaonons had shouted at us. "Abu Sayyaf, Abu Sayyaf!" Crap! Thanks to our chaperons who reprimanded them after they had shouted at us.

After all that's been said, I'm still at home, not just adhering to the cliche that there's no place like home, but to the fact that Zamboanga is redeeming itself and moves on forward. Just stay calm and be vigilant, police forces are everywhere. With that, nothing can harm you.

Movies

I personally like movies, although I prefer American or foreign movies than Filipino-made movies. And I can't afford not to mention Harry Potter series, Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons, Transformers and etc. Why so? Movies that are made abroad which are being shown up here exhibit a different type of story and flow. You can notice that those movies don't show too much drama. They are specialized with very sterling special-effects and the like, but, I did not say Philippine movies are of poor quality. In fact, they are now already recognized in the international scene, making me a little bit prouder.

Basically, movies are classified into different categories. You can actually stand infront of the movie posters that show lots of genre of movies. You can first choose from the variety of it-whether fantasy, action, horror, drama, comedy or whatever before pushing yourself into the cinema. However, you can likewise watch movies in your own house through CDs or DVDs, but if possible not pirated. Well well well, the most vital here is you watch them better with somebody special or close to you. Isn't it?

Movies, moreover, has something to do with our personalities. One has the prerogative to choose a particular movie from a specific category which he thinks can uplift his spirit and can entertain him the most. If he wants to laugh out loud, he might choose a comedy or if he prefers not to sleep at night, he might choose horror. Your choice or preference when it comes to movies reflects who you are and how you think.

Mother

In this world, there is no sane mother who can abandon her children for her own interests. Most of the mothers never leave their children for their sense of love for them prevails. And we, as the children of our respective mothers, should repay them for we would have not seen this world if not because of them who birthed us.
I can say I'm closer to my mother compared to my father. I just find her as the better parent whom I can consult when I need a helping hand. She's not vocal, she does not say she loves us. Indeed, my mother practices "action speaks louder than words." With that, I'm still assured. Sometimes, my mother would wake me up in the morning when I would ignore the alarm clock. She cooks our meal(of course), prepares everything we need and budgets our money. These could just be petty for other people, but these reflect who my mother is.
I really love my mother, although I'm not telling it to her always. I love her more than she could ever know. What else? Maybe we just have to tell our mothers that we love them even just in occasions. We'll never know their very worth until they're gone.

Me? A Bookworm?

When we say a person is a bookworm, we actually correlate him to someone who reads voraciously. Yet, most of the people find that hobby as boring and not distressing. However, if you don't mind pages of a thick book, then reading is just your cup of tea.

Well, talking about the title, am I really a bookworm? Certainly, not before. But now, somehow. You know, I learned my lesson. I had some problems about my vocabulary; writing and speaking skills before, but now I can say that almost everything has improved. I eventually had more confidence for myself and became less inferior to great writers and speakers who are using highfalutin words when they write and speak.

Indeed, it pays to read. Don't believe? Just try to ponder on these expression: "Beware of a man with one book."
