Our Security in the City

Several bombings that occurred in Mindanao, particularly in Zamboanga City have given the notion to other people from other places that the city is a terrorists' haven. Due to this, people from those places have been afraid to visit Zamboanga which might have also caused by the overwhelming power of media. But, as a constant citizen of the city, I still feel comfortable and safe in the premises of it.

Security in this place as far as I know has been fine. Those bombings have happened only before and Zamboanga now starts to redeem itself. Although there's a lot to be improved in the security system, the effort by the people in the authority is visible. We cannot blame the geographical location of Zamboanga. It is threatened, since it is the nearest urbanized city to the den of those alleged terrorists.

But, wouldn't it be more frightening to live in some other urbanized cities in the country? With all of dozens and dozens of hold-uppers, rapists, pickpockets, gangsters, car nappers, murderers and everything in Metro Manila? Now what place is better to live at? Hahaha. I'm just hurt to the fact that I was being one of the stereotyped people before. Way back in 2005, I went to attend a national conference in Surigao City and during the parade, when Zamboanga City was introduced, Surigaonons had shouted at us. "Abu Sayyaf, Abu Sayyaf!" Crap! Thanks to our chaperons who reprimanded them after they had shouted at us.

After all that's been said, I'm still at home, not just adhering to the cliche that there's no place like home, but to the fact that Zamboanga is redeeming itself and moves on forward. Just stay calm and be vigilant, police forces are everywhere. With that, nothing can harm you.

  2. I agree to you because the policemen here in ZC are really doing their job well but for me, being a new resident of ZC, you can't also blame me for still being frightened hahaha bu I hope you could help me overcome this fear.

About the Abu Sayaff thing, hahaha, we also experienced that. A friend of mine studying somewhere at Visayas was teased also by that and also when I went to Davao during my junior days, my companions asked me about that, hahaha.

  4. we do have the same thought. honestly, it is worse if the ARMM region was there. people were really judgmental, they are concluding right away base on what the media has been stated. well done God bless them and us too.
